Software Piracy is illegal repeating, distribution, or use of code. Piracy includes casual repeating of specific code by a personal or business.With the advancement of technological tools code piracy has hyperbolic worldwide.
Not being educated about software piracy will not exempt you of civil and/or criminal penalties if found guilty. Fines could include up to $250,000 and/or 5 years in jail.
Types of Software Piracy
• CD-R Infringement: Illegally copying software using CD-R recording technology.
• Soft lifting: buying one authorized copy of software system and loading it onto many computers in violation of license terms.
An example of this could be sharing code with friends, co-workers etc.
• Uploading and Downloading: Making unauthorized copies of copyrighted software available to end users connected to online service providers and/or peer to peer networks via the Internet.
• Unrestricted consumer Access Infringement: permitting purchasers of a corporation to freely access software system on the organization’s network server in violation of the terms of the license agreement.
• Software system Counterfeiting: illicitly duplicating and mercantilism proprietary software system in a very kind designed to form it seem legitimate.
• Disk Loading: putting in unauthorized copies of software system onto the exhausting disks of private computers, often as an incentive for the end user to buy the hardware from that particular hardware dealer.
• Renting: Unauthorized viewing of software system for temporary use.
• Industrial Use of Non-Commercial Software: exploitation academic or different commercial-use-restricted software system in violation of the software system license.
The negative effects of piracy to end users
- No access to technical help
- Content may be incorrect or outdated and it can be difficult to assess necessity for upgrade.
- Software system could contain viruses or be defective or corrupted overpriced lawsuits and/or vital penalties are often applied.
